Beware the barrenness of a busy life!

I came across this quote by Socrates this evening while surfing .....and thought it is so relevant even today, possibly more relevant now than ever before......

Being busy is a fad; today,  most of us get fidgety if we are not busy doing something or the other...and technology does not actually help the situation....if there's nothing to do, there's always your smart device to the rescue!

Why do we feel this way? Why do we not have time to smell the coffee, smell the roses - forget smell, sometimes, we don't even notice the roses? Why do we always have to be perceived to be "active"- doing something? And do we ever stop to think about what it is that we are doing - what are we running after? I doubt it.....sometimes, we get so busy in our lives, it becomes a habit - something seems wrong if we are not busy; it stops to matter what we are busy with.

There will always be things to do, mountains to climbs, places to travel to, tasks to be completed, goals to be achieved  - there is always going to be opportunity to be "busy" ..... no one wants to be "idle" and create a haven for the Devil as the saying goes..... but shouldn't there be a balance? More so, after you have crossed a particular stage in your life?

Beware the "barrenness", as the wise man said..... let's not get so busy that we forget the things or people, relationships that should matter more.

As we grow mature and wiser, let's stop and take stock of our lives.....let's learn to focus on what we want to be busy with.....what really matters.... what will matter as we grow older.

Its obviously difficult when you are at the peak of your career, so very close to your goals that you can almost sniff success....... don't stop dead in your tracks, but as one of my ex-colleagues and now good friend had taught me years ago, lift yourself higher and look ahead, reassess your "goals", stretch your necks to see what could lie ahead and understand if you are truly geared up to deal with it. If not, move your stance, shift gears, adjust and change.... and its never really too late!

Be busy, no doubt - keep moving .....but in the direction that makes sense, doing things that really matter. So that we don't ever have to deal with that "barrenness"......

Let God give us that courage and wisdom!

For those of us busy bees around, I say..... slow down a little, take some time to stand and stare, acknowledge, appreciate ....its still a beautiful world and we can only take it much more of its beauty, serenity if we stop running...more so, if what we are running after, will actually not take us very far.
