A bit of shade ....

The road is long and the sun is scorching
The journey yet, has to be made
Places to go, milestones to reach
The lonely traveler sometime faces defeat.

And then suddenly it looms ahead, a tree, a bit of shade
It brings a bit of spring back to the tired feet
Like a mother, waiting for her tired children
The tree coaxes the traveller to rest a bit, put the feet up

The heavy trunk relieves the tired shoulders
As the traveler rests for a while and recuperates
The branches provide a warm shelter from the blazing sun
His eyes close as it would in a warm embrace.

The traveler finds a few moments of solace; he lets go of himself in the warmth of that embrace. He is in peace....for a while.

But after a brief slumber, he jumps to his feet
He has miles to go; he remembers, his promises to keep
Some kind of raw energy seems to have soaked into him
This bit of shade has prepared him for his journey again

And he carries on.... with one last look at the solitary tree
Thankful for its priceless few moments of shade in an otherwise long journey called Life.

A few of us are lucky - when our roads get treacherous, we find our bits of shade. These are our special "connects" that help us tide over rough seas. They give us a few moments of solace, of escape from all things harsh and real. Their embrace rejuvenates and we allow ourselves to let go, just be... for a while.

And then, like the traveler, we must get on with our journey, walking our own paths towards our milestones, our goals. We cannot afford to get too attached to these connects or stay too long in their shade.... maybe that's not what they are meant for.

However, my bits of shade make me feel rich, make me stronger, keep me going ...and I am thankful for them. They make me feel blessed.

For all whose roads are a bit bumpy for now, please look around - look for your tree, your bit of shade. It is there - you just have to find it. And you will find your peace, even if for a while..... it will help you move ahead, towards where you have to go.

The Weary Traveler
- by B Moss
To those who share the many roads , the many paths, rest awhile! Where is the path I seek? How long must this journey go? What are the ties that bind my hands? Endure I must, but how much longer? Will my strength hold till I get “there.” What do I learn from this? Heavy shackles drag me down. Oh courage, stay with me, that I may find the way. So much have I sacrificed, So many wrong turns and detours I’ve taken. Often I wonder what for, and why? I plunged into the darkness, is it a test of my endurance, of my will, of my spirit? There is only so much that I can bear. Down the turbulent road I travel, weary of mind and body, on and on I go. But the time has come to find a spot, find respite from these cares. Let me find a tree with shades of green, and feel the warmth of the sun. Indulge my body and spirit to savor the freshness of the air. Let the rain wash away my fears. Dear Mother Earth, let me feel your embrace, as I lay on your lap. Rest, rest, weary traveller.
