RENEW - my theme for 2019
And just like that, another year is soon about to end .... Time really doesn't care if you are having fun or not, it just goes on ... like the river, the river of life.
I have also realized that I have not made an appearance here lately - did I not have anything to say? I guess, I have been taking time off and disengaging from some stuff in my life to focus inwards. Yes, 2018 was filled with that - taking stock!
For the past couple of years, I have been adding a theme to each year - the year of stabilization, the year of personal change, the year of reflections. This tag line stays at the back of my mind throughout the 12 months and I keep checking back to see what, if any, I have actually achieved vis-a-vis my annual objectives.
I have often prescribed that we need to step back from time to time and reassess our own lives - as I say, take stock - of how life's going in general terms - of our dreams and aspirations or even of milestones. Our career and personal relationships. What went right and what taught us. What do we want to keep and what is best released.
That's what I have been doing in 2018. And the outcome is my theme for 2019.
R.E.N.E.W.
What does that mean for me?
It means to recalibrate my life and all that goes on within. Reset some. Continue with only what that makes sense to me now and takes me higher otherwise, gently let go - irrespective of how much space it used to take up before.
In the business world, I have learnt a lot about disruptions - and the benefits of it in a fast changing world. Change is scary, can be uncomfortable - but stagnation equals death. That's not who I am. I am ready for disrupting aspects of my life that could do well with new.
Hence, I am ready and willing.
To renew myself personally and professionally.
To try different, to explore new routes.
To shake up what's worked for me so far and experiment, even if it is fail miserably on some fronts.
I give myself the permission to fail, but I know what I want and I want new.
And I know I will find more of myself as I go along these unchartered routes
Above all, I trust my Shepherd and know He will never let go of my hand as I skip along.
So....
2019 - Bring it on
What's your theme for the new year? Have you ever thought about one?
To those of you who never have, I strongly suggest you give it a shot. Use the rest of December to identify what will matter most to you in the new year and give it a name, give yourself a bit of focus and take life, head on.
at the threshold of another year again
