We are all work in progress!
It's a new year again, new beginnings as they say .... and I wish for all, beginning with me, to be better, updated versions of themselves this year.
Yesterday, I met up with some friends and we were discussing about how we are changing constantly as the years roll by, as our perspectives change, as we "mature" and grow older! We spoke about how we used to be, say even 5 years ago, and how much of that has changed now. We also debated about whether it was even possible to change who you are intrinsically!
What I took home with me is that most of us are always "work in progress"....
We are who we need to be, depending on where we are standing in our life's journey. At times, we are fierce warriors; at other times, we are gentle nurturers. Some phases make us materialistic as we build our worlds for those we love and care for and we wish for more; then, as the years pass, we move to more spiritual realms when we learn to let go of more and get back to the basics - where the only abundance we seek is of peace and harmony.
That is probably the beauty of this life - that we adjust and recalibrate to resonate with the meandering of the river of life. We are always discovering nuances about ourselves, unlearning behaviors practiced over years and evolving into new creatures synced with current times.
This is not to say that we change / can change everything about us - the core remains, I guess. The values, the faith, the beliefs - none of these alter much. Yet like the butterfly's metamorphic journey, we learn to take different stances and see life through varied prisms. And that is called "maturity" - the open acceptance of change as a constant in life and the willingness to adjust, keeping the core as intact as needed.
Hence I strive ... to be who I need to be ... now. I firmly believe that the universe takes you to where you need to be and all you need to do is understand that this is a journey and that you need to learn Life's lessons, given where you stand. (You are there for a reason!)
The good, the bad, the ugly - none are finished products and it is immature to be quick to judge. Times change, perspectives always do. And if we look at each other as work in progress, we may be less prone to put people in boxes.
"Finished things cease to be a shelter for the spirit, but work in progress is a delight."
- MAX FRISCH
Let's try this new lens in 2024 and see how it works for us. Let's try and be the best version of ourselves over the next 12 months. Let Life happen and let's keep learning!
Sending love and light to all <3
