Let's hold on to that childlike excitement ...forever!
"Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities."
Today my 16 year old daughter is going for her first Prom. Since the last few days, that's all we have been talking about ......I am sure that's what they have been talking about for months at school!! Since yesterday, she and her friends have been completely taken up with preps for this one evening and their excitement is infectious. I am completely caught it in and enjoying their fluttering of wings that will soon take them away ....
I spend the whole day with them and saw Life again - through their eyes... excited as only 16 year olds can be - their dreams, their imagination.... not a care in this life....it felt so unadulterated that my eyes went moist at times. I prayed hard to my Lord that He allows these girls to hold on to this excitement ...for as long as possible. Who knows what Life holds in store for them? How much of it is good, how much of it is bad? But then, why worry about that now?
Often on my way back from work, I stop in the play area below my house and watch the little kids play and their excitement and glee energizes me, even after a long day at work. I tell you, it's infectious...
And I have realized that to stay positive, to stay energized, to stay happy ....you have to stay with people that imagine, that dream, that can look beyond the mundane. Even if this borders on brink of reality..... So always keep excited, happy, energetic people around you - people who have a zest for living and allow them to play on you. Try and look at their world and share in their pleasures - however simplistic they may seem to you. Soon you will be infected too....and you will begin to feel the rush. It's beautiful!
Too often, as we grow old, we distance ourselves from this....and that is what makes us insipid, placid, boring..... Life is too short and beautiful for us to allow that. Let's not get into that rut. Look around you. See who brings positivity into your life, who pulls you up, who rallies you around, who brings you down, who does nothing......and you will know where to keep the focus. As I always say, it's our choice, always.
May we always keep alive within us ....imagination, dreams...and the excitement of possibilities....
That's what makes Life worth living...still.
Happy Prom, darling :)
