To all beautiful women ....... you inspire ......

March 8 : International Women's Day 

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.
I am a strong feminist. I believe we women, make this universe a softer, humane and more interesting place. Yes, we are nurturers by nature. But thankfully, today we nurture not only kids, but entire families, corporations, communities, even states. We, women, have come a long way. And it's no competition with the men, as often is perceived. It's simply a statement that we need to be accepted as we are.


I am proud I am a woman....

  • Despite often being treated as children of lesser Gods, not given equal opportunities at many times, we rise against all odds, shouldering responsibilities, protecting our worlds as fiercely as only a woman can. Salute!
  • Despite often being taken advantage of, on the streets, in offices, sometimes, even in the so-called safety of our  own houses, thankfully we can rise again and again and hit back in our own way or forgive and walk past, carving our own niches, our own roads. Salute!
  • Despite how much some barbaric creature who pass off as "men" in our societies (especially relevant, unfortunately, in my own country) abuse us - physically, verbally, mentally - we do not give up our fight or get scared; we cannot be kept down, we can overcome almost any shit they hand out to us and keep walking ahead, heads held high. Salute!
  • Despite being the "weaker sex", a man can rarely equal the moral strength of a woman, any woman. Salute! 

And on top of all of this courage, strength, resilience, we appreciate the finer things of life and bring into this world - beauty, grace, color, beautiful aromas, an amazing eye for all things soft and beautiful. 


I believe all women are beautiful....whether they slog it our in their daily mundane struggles or adorn the fashion pages across the globe or become role-models to millions.... they all have a beauty unparalleled.


 

So, here's to all of you, beautiful women out there. 

Cheers to our tribe - that hasn't learnt to give up despite the many odds against us, that still tries to bring cheer to a world that seems to be crumbling at so many places.

Not just today, everyday is ours.....

Those lazy, hazy days of summer

Today marks the end of my summer of 2024. Not because it's any special day in the calendar but simply because I have marked it so. ( These days, I mostly do as I please! )  Today I do nothing but simply look back.... I am not a fan of summers normally - especially given that I have been based in a sandpit for the last 20 odd years. Like most of us expats who live here in the Middle East, I have always found summers a good time to escape - either travel  back to India or to visit other countries that have, or used to have, cooler temperatures.  This year, I stayed put, mostly :) And it was different.  Yes, it was very hot and one had to stay indoors almost all the time but there was a sense of quiet and peace in and around Dubai that I quite enjoyed. About drawing lines

As the years pass by, I realize, more and more, the importance of drawing lines. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The world is divisive enough on its own - some may say do we really need more boundaries between us?  The answer to this question could be debated. Yet, I have always been a fan of personal spaces - a concept alien to most Asians, definitely Indians! For me, it's linked to giving another human being the respect he/she deserves and ensuring that I have the same - the space to breathe free, to think without any pressures, to decide on my own. I tend to feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable, otherwise.  However, growing up - especially in my twenties and thirties, I did prioritize on "belonging" - to many groups and communities, for both personal and professional reasons. What happened to "fun"?? This evening, I sent a very close friend an image that said..Let's be friends till we die...and then  become Ghost friends...glide through walls and scare the shit out of people!! I thought that was hilarious ...seemed like so much fun to believe momentarily that we could. I even started making a list of people I'd like to scare and boy, I was grinning from ear to ear :) Sadly, this friend of mine did not respond.....maybe it was not "fun" or even too "childish" to respond to :( Which brings me to think : what happened to "fun"? Where does it say that as you grow older, you need to stop having simple fun? Why do we stop doing things for the sheer fun of it and nothing else? We all used to, as kids, right? Then what happened?
